The Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light is a product that I’ve been wanting to try for some time mainly because Smashbox is a brand well-known for its camera-ready makeup products.

If you have been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that foundation is my favorite type of face makeup and I get absurdly excited by complexion products. This may sound incredibly weird, but I seriously find creating a flawless base for the rest of your makeup highly therapeutic!
This is actually my very first BB cream product ever because I wasn’t convinced by the explosion of BB/CC/DD creams (whether the Korean, or Western ones) and their claims.
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Ligh
Let’s face it, with all the complexion-enhancing products out there, any addition or potential “wishlist” item can easily break the budget. As someone who prefers full-coverage, flawless complexion products, BB creams have never been on top of my list.
They are typically touted as being sheerer and lighter than most foundations, so it wasn’t the finish that I usually look for. Just like other BB creams, the Smashbox one claims to be a “five-in-one formula for achieving flawless skin on camera and beyond.”
The shade “Light” (the second lightest shade) matches my NC25 skin tone perfectly. One of the benefits of BB creams is that it tends to oxidize to match your individual skin tone (hence why there are only a few shades in the range).
There are a total of 5 shades in the entire range and the shades tend to run darker based on a few reviews I’ve read online, so be sure to do a comparison shade before purchasing.
I would not have guessed that the shade “Light” was my shade match at all, but the yellow tone really matches the yellow undertone on my skin. If you find the shade to be slightly off, you can mix it up with your existing foundation or BB cream and still get away with it.
I have normal skin so I didn’t benefit very much from the oil-controlling properties. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much coverage the BB cream provides – there’s sufficient pigmentation to deliver a light-medium coverage.
I find the coverage to be buildable as well, so I was able to get almost full coverage on my skin without looking cakey. I use a dime-sized amount when I’m having good days and twice that amount for bad days when I need extra coverage.
The finish is absolutely gorgeous: semi-matte, radiant, and natural-looking, as expected from a product with this kind of price tag. With this BB cream, I don’t even need to use pressed powder to mattify my skin.
It doesn’t get stuck or dry over any dry spots and I can foresee myself forgoing the full-coverage foundation which is something that rarely happens. I used this BB cream on one of my worst skin days and with a little bit of concealer, my skin still looked amazing and flawless.

This is probably one of the best complexion products I’ve tried from Smashbox. The quality, finish, perfect shade match was decidedly its best features, and the combination could be hard to find elsewhere!

This BB cream is definitely on the higher end of the price spectrum and may not be something for everyone particularly with this kind of price tag, so be sure to shop around for the shades (ask for samples!) if you are unsure!
