Around this time of the year, I am always lamenting over the fact that it is already the end of the year, and how I cannot believe that the year has passed by so quickly! 2014 has been an incredible year, filled with learning, and new experiences! Not only that, I’ve also discovered a whole host of new beauty products that I’ve loved and rounded up for this post. I hope you enjoy this annual recap of some of my favourite products throughout the year! P.S. If you missed my earlier post on the “base and face”, don’t forget to check it out here!
LORAC Mega Pro Palette | $57 | review
The mother of all palettes arrived in the form of a slim, maroon-red eyeshadow palette from LORAC, which contains a beautiful selection of 16 matte and 16 shimmer eyeshadows which will complete any collection. As this palette was limited edition, purchasing it became a matter of pride but owning it given how versatile it is, makes the purchase absolutely worthwhile. Don’t fret too much if you couldn’t get your hands on it – I think the palette is quite similar to the existing Lorac Pro palettes, albeit with only more colours.
Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Taupe | $23 | available here | review
This was a blogger-inspired purchase and I think I am quite indifferent to it. While it didn’t wow me the way some bloggers have described this product to me, it’s handy to have, particularly since it matches quite well to my skintone and hair colour. A hard combination to find sometimes!
Dior 5 Couleurs Palette in 30 Montaigne | $61 | available here
A basic 5-colour eyeshadow from Dior that initially didn’t wow me. The colours seemed dupeable, and the quality when swatched, was alright. It didn’t help that the size of each shade (as it was a sample) is so tiny, I could barely fit my brush in. However, once applied, I am in love. The pigmentation isn’t in-your-face bold – there’s a subtleness to the colour that is so quintessentially French and oh-so-chic. With this palette, it’s almost impossible to overdo your makeup.
YSL Volupté Sheer Candy | $39 | available here
I’ll be honest with you – the main reason I bought this was because it looked pretty as a prop for Instagram pictures. It didn’t help that #9 (Pink in Paris) is a bright pink shade that would make any neutral lip gal like myself swoon at first swipe. However, the good thing is that the Sheer Candy is more of a lip balm so the colour applies a lot less intense. I’ve only gotten compliments when wearing this.
MAC Lipstick in Shy Girl | $19 | available here
Never thought that my all-time, staple, any-occasion colour would be a MAC lipstick, but here it is. Shy Girl. Aptly named, perfectly coloured for everyday wear. It’s the colour that I would rock, whether it be going for an interview, traveling or just on a casual day out.
Tangle Teezer | $14 | available here | review
I think I say one too many times that the Tangle Teezer is a must-have in my bag, and after taking it traveling with me, I can confidently say that I will not go another day without it. A bold statement you say? Try it, and you’ll understand.
Benefit Gimme Brow | $26 | available here
I discovered this only late this year, but it’s quickly became a staple! It temporarily tints the brow hairs while looking so natural and is easy to travel with. This is an excellent item to have when you’re always rushing out the door in the morning.
Clinique High Impact Mascara | $19 | available here
Another one of those blogger-inspired purchases, but I love this mascara that it may be taking the top spot along with the Too Faced one, on my list. It coats the lashes to volumize, and thicken, but doesn’t smudge no matter what. The formula lasts all day, so you don’t ever have to worry about your mascara running, no matter what nature throws at you.
Shiseido Eyelash Curler | $21 | available here
This has been my go-to eyelash curler for years! I have only had to replace the pads once and it’s still going strong. On my monolid eyes, this curler doesn’t pinch the lids.
Kenzo Flower in the Air | $90 | available here
This fragrance has been my go to for work, and daily wear. Something about it just screams sophistication and an aura of feminine grace. It doesn’t come off too strong but lasts all day!
Benefit Stay Don’t Stray | $30 | available here
It’s taken me years to finally get my hands on the full-sized version of this product, and I’m not even sure why. I loved the product as it is a really great base for my eyeshadow colours to adhere to and the littlest amount goes a long long way. The eyeshadow primer comes in two shades to suit a variety of different skintones.
Happy Plugs Rose Gold Earphones | $26 | available here
It’s rose gold, and it looks pretty. Enough said, right?
Now it’s your turn! Have you tried any of these products? What products rounds up your top of 2014 list? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Share with me comment section or through Twitter or Instagram!
Great picks! Clinique High Impact is one of my all-time fave mascaras and I must add a Lorac palette to my stash this year ????
The LORAC Mega Pro palette made it into my top favorites for 2014 as well! (Currently working on that post…lol) I think it’s such a FABULOUS palette! It’s the only thing I need to bring whenever I go on a trip. ????
Love the eyelash curler. I would love to have one that last longer than three months.
Thanks for sharing. =) Be great to see some swatches too.
LOL’D AT YOUR REASON FOR BUY THAT YSL LIPPIE…I feel ya, man. I bought a candle yesterday, but because I knew it would make for an amazing prop (but I have been wanting it for months though, because it smells amazing!). I loved High Impact when I had it, and while I have the dipbrow pomade, I find the shade I have too warm/brown for my liking ???? (not sure if I’ll find a match in the current shade range!)
I love the YSL Sheer Candy’s–I think I have 3 of them!
