The Clarins Summer 2017 Makeup Collection is so subtle and low-key; I must say I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier collection to get excited about for the season! With three new limited-edition launches, and adorned with summer designs that will make you dream of palm trees, sands between your toes, and a pina colada in your hand, this collection is a total looker.
Clarins’ makeup products often fall under the radar which is a shame – on top of their lovely skincare range, I’m a huge fan of their face and lip products. I can already say that these should be something to test out and swatch the next time you’re shopping in-store for new summer makeup products!
Clarins Summer 2017 Makeup Collection.
If there is one word to describe the entire Clarins Summer 2017 Makeup Collection, it would be “tropical”. The packaging got a summer-inspired upgrade and will totally make you smile. I don’t have too many personal travel plans this year – all of my travels so far have been work-related – so these palm tree patterns, and sunburnt orange shades that keeps showing up are giving me all sorts of travel vibes whilst I’m ensconced at home this summer season!
Face Products
For the face, we have a new limited edition Bronzing and Blush Compact ($42, available here). Does it need to be this big? Probably not, but I’m not going to complain. It comes with a full-sized mirror, and no brush, which I’m perfectly fine with. Surprisingly, this powder doesn’t come with a velvet pouch similar to previous collections.
Like all Clarins product, this powder is infused with plant-based ingredients that hydrates the skin and protects it from pollution and aggressors. There is a gradient trio of warm-toned medium browns with no shimmers to impart a natural-looking sunkissed look on the skin. I’m really digging these browns – they don’t lean too red like the bronzer Face Contouring Palette which could only be worn as a blush on my light-medium skintone. There is a half-circle bit that has a coral / orange-y blush shade that can be mixed into the bronzer to give you a warmer look or worn on its own (You’ll be needing a smaller brush head) but I have been preferring wearing the coral/orange blush separately.
The Eye Products
The new 4-Colour Eyeshadow Palette ($45, available here) also got the vacation treatment on the outside. The four colours are probably the four colours I would never pick out myself, but fortunately, Clarins has included an instructional card on two ways you can wear these colour combination. The most interesting shade of the bunch is definitely the bright orange – I’ll let you know how I get on with it.
Although not indicated anywhere on the package or product, I believe this formula can be worn wet or dry. I’ve always preferred them worn wet because the pigmentation then is so much more interesting! Unlike some of the previous quads, I spotted some matte colours in here! That’s something to get excited about – it really balances the tones particularly when you have a bold set of colours to work with.
Finally, we’ve got two new Waterproof Eye Pencil ($27, available here) in two sunny shades, perfect to use for any occasion. You’ve got a gold and copper shade that will warm up your makeup look instantly. On one end of the pencil is a smudger brush – I’m not usually the biggest fan of this arrangement as I’d prefer having more of the pencil than an end that I won’t get to use as much. I don’t have too many gold/copper eyeliners so this is a lovely addition to my collection that will get a lot of usage in the next few months!
To finish off your look, you’ll want to ensure you’ve got some Mascara Supra Volume to give your lashes some drama to keep up with the bold colours on the eyes. You’ll also want to keep your skin protected at all times – I quite like the Clarins UV50! Finish off your entire look with an understated, yet comfortable and hydrating lip balm and gloss hybrid, the Instant Light Lip Perfector!
Now it’s over to you! What do you think of the new sunkissed-inspired Clarins makeup collection?

The orange shade does pop out and definitely felt out of touch compared to the rest of them so I’m keen to incorporate this into my makeup routine!
