When I first heard that Make Up For Ever was expanding their Aqua collection, I was so, so thrilled. I have been long a fan of Make Up For Ever product particularly with the the Aqua range because there are only few makeup products in the beauty world that last longer than 10+ hours on me, and will last through a couple of kickboxing classes! The Make Up For EverAqua Matic ($25, available here) not only delivered on its claims, but totally blew me away with its long-lasting formula that stays on no matter how much you sweat, cry or whatever else the elements might throw at you.
Did you Know? The entire MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Collection is water proof, sweat proof and melt-proof, having undergone rigorous testing under water for 5 hours?
The Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic is creamy, pigmented, long-lasting, and smudge-proof are four things that come to mind right away within the first swipe. The colour #I-22 (Iridescent Electric Blue) is just like the Sepia Blue colour in a Make Up For Ever Sepia Blue Palette – unique and “out there” colour that just adds the right pop of colour for your entire eye look. If you’re not too adventurous with your makeup, and prefer a conservative/barely there/neutral type of makeup, this is a colour worth checking out, especially for the summer time, to add that unexpected pop of colour.
Did you Know? The Aqua Matic collection was created for make up artists working in extreme environments as well as women wanting high performance make up they can wear every day.
As you can see in the swatches below, the more you layer, the more intense the colour looks on the skin. The twist-up/retractable pencil format is one of my favourite things about this product. Easier to control, manoeuvre, and travel with overall with the sharpener built-in at the bottom of the pencil.
There are 10 shades available on sephora.ca ranging from the basics (black/brown) to bold, bright shades with various finishes (satin, metallic, diamond or iridescent) to complement your make up collection!
There are a few similarities between the Aqua Matic ($25) and existing Make Up For Ever product, the Aqua Shadow ($24). The first thing I will break down is the price vs. volume, and I’ll go over a few qualitative aspects of each product to give you a better idea about each.
- Aqua Matic ($25) contains 0.049 oz which is about 1/3 of the size of the Aqua Shadow
- While the Aqua Shadow Pencil ($24) contains 0.14 oz worth of product
If you have the Aqua Shadow ($24, available here), you might find the Aqua Matic slightly redundant and very similar to the Aqua Shadow, negating the need to purchase the Aqua Matic. As similar as they are, the Aqua Matic is much creamier/smoother, and easier to blend, thus involving less tugging on the eyelids. Also with the Aqua Matic, there’s a bit more time to blend and fix any mistakes before the product completely sets.
Since these are so similar, would you be better off with one and not the other? I think that question really depends on your preference. The formula and price are quite similar, and I think the biggest decision-factors would whether or not you prefer the creamier version (Aqua Matic), and your shade preference (Aqua Shadow has more neutral/everyday color varieties).
Have you tried the Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic? What is your favourite shade from the collection? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Share with me comment section or through Twitter or Instagram!
