It seems that the beauty e-commerce landscape for Canadians is continue to expand without an end in sight, and it’s a beautiful thing. You probably haven’t heard of Scarlet & Julia yet, but that’s about to change!
Scarlet & Julia is a new online beauty destination for Canadians whose singular focus is to deliver a singular one-stop shop experience for all your beauty needs. The platform is best described in two parts:
Firstly, you have La Boutique, an online shop for prestige brands sourced from department stores, spa’s, and beauty salons. Here you’ll find brands like Stila, Nuxe, St. Tropez, Mistik and Eve Lom among many brands they offer. The carefully curated selection of products mean fewer availabilities (i.e. you won’t find Stila’s limited edition holiday collection here), but that can be overlooked by the harder-to-find brands that is offered through the site like Eve Lom or Consonant Skincare.
Secondly, you have the Beauty Outlet which is best described as the Canadian version of Hautelook. The section is updated every week with a new sale (up to 80% off) offered to members only. Brands that have been featured in the past include Burberry Fragrances, Lierac and NeoStrata.
The Haul & Shopping Experience
I had the pleasure of not only being sent an adorable press kit in a lipstick-style USB stick but also a gift card to use towards the website. I had a hard time deciding what to pick up with my gift card, so I opted for something that I couldn’t get my hands on as easily – the famous Nuxe ParisHuile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil ($45, available here) and the StilaStay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner ($29, available here), my holy grail eyeliner.
My overall shopping experience on the website was very positive – the website was easy and intuitive to navigate, and I had absolutely no troubles checking out or entering my gift card/promo code. It took a little bit longer for the package to arrive (but keep in mind, I’m used to getting my shipment out the next day like when you’re shopping on Sephora or The Bay so that may not be the fairest comparison), but it arrived safely sound within 1.5 weeks from Montréal. Purchases over $75 ship for free, and there is a loyalty program which earns you 5% back in S&J credits from every purchase you make.
I was pleasantly surprised to see three generous samples inside, an invoice, and $10 coupon code for future purchase inside the carefully wrapped. Now that I know they stock some of my HG products like the StilaStay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner, I will definitely take them up on that offer!
Shopping on Scarlet & Julia
Aside from centralizing/aggregating difficult-to-find-brands in one place, Scarlet & Julia has a great community involvement in the form of donating 1% of their sales to the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, an organization that supports women battling cancer.
I don’t think Scarlet & Julia is going to ever replace primary beauty destinations like Sephora, or The Bay, but a new player in the e-commerce field never hurts. It’s a great place to source products that may not be stocked or readily available at the other sites, so it is still worthwhile to visit the site, even if it’s just to take a peek at the offering and brands available.
Have you heard of Scarlet & Julia? What do you think of this comprehensive Canadian beauty e-comm platform?
Great to hear Steph! What did you pick up?
two lipstick queen lipsticks!
I’ve been scouring it trying to make decisions on what I am going to order! I was thinking a Stila palette, but then I saw they’re now carrying Living Proof!
Oh! I didn’t even know they carried Living Proof – maybe I’ll have to come back and do another order ????
I just made an order this week! The shopping experience so far has been great!
