Alright, let’s be honest – I don’t think anyone of us really expected me to be talking about Poo-Pourri on the blog. However, I have been seeing the come back of toilet sprays (Airwick just came out with one), and it’s the summer season which means, DIY all around!
I have seen and heard of Poo-Pourri for a while now – the first time when I was in university, at the campus store. I figured it was one of those gimmicky items and who would want to spend $25 on a tiny bottle of this? I thought it was one of those bathroom sprays that will still smell like bathroom + whatever-else-you-got-going-on so I happily went away without it.
Fast forward a few years, I received an email asking if I wanted to review this product. Again, I was quite intrigued – aside from the cringe-worthy advertisement that went along with this, I wanted to give this a go just in case it was ever needed in an emergency. Plus, the artwork really gets me all giggly – the pictures of cherubs in the background just seems to scream “angels choir singing in the background as you’re taking the dump” or something similar.
The Poo-Pourri
I chose to go with the Poo-PourriBefore You Go Toilet Deodorizer in Smoky Woods ($17.95, available here). There are a few other scents available including lavender, tropical hibiscus, original (which is lemon scented) and vanilla. You might be fooled into thinking that you’re actually shopping for candles.
The large size comes with 4 oz of product which doesn’t sound like much but considering you need about 5 sprays before you go, the size seem reasonable for the price. The black slim packaging makes it a discrete addition to my shared bathroom – it doesn’t feel like an obvious addition to the myriad of sprays that I keep to keep the bathroom smelling nice and fresh.
As you might expect, smoky woods incorporate strong scents of cedar, hickory, and citrus. The smell is quite pungent but really effective. The deodorizer works right away to keep the odour away so you don’t really smell it after you’re done. The product is super easy to use – just spray 4-6 times before you go and flush. The scent starts out quite sharp when you first spray it into the toilet bowl but dissipates after you flush, leaving no traces of this product or the goodies that’s just been flushed down.
The Poo-Pourri is perfect to bring along when you’re going camping, staying overnight outside of your home or just to keep handy at home.
Overall Verdict on the Poo-Pourri
A great addition for your bathroom but also something to keep on the go. I decanted a bit of this product into a travel-ready spray to pop in my everyday bag for emergencies. You can purchase the Poo-Pourri on the Nail Polish Canada website – free shipping on orders over $19 (or $4 standard shipping!)
