Aqua Allegoria, just the name itself, takes me to a warm, breezy day in the French countryside. Or a quaint, little Italian town. It just takes me takes me away. But Aqua Allegoria is one of Guerlain’s iconic fragrance range that typically sees two releases a year – one exclusively available at airports (duty free) and another that is distributed through the Guerlain boutiques, counters, and institutes.
This year’s launch to the GuerlainAqua Allegoria ($75, available here) range is Pera Granita, translated roughly to pear sorbet. How does that sound on a hot summer day? Existing Aqua Allegoria scents include Mandarine Basilic, Herba Fresca, Pamplelune, and Limon Verde.
The Aqua Allegoria range is an ode to nature, so each scent features a theme. Mandarine Basilic, for example, is meant to represent the picnic at the riverbank (or the haute Parisian equivalent, by the Seine) and listening to birdsongs. The Pera Granita is meant to embody relaxing under a pear tree, savouring a granita in a garden. When I read that description, it immediately took me to this scene from Game of Thrones with Sansa, Margaery and Lady Olenna (minus all the bad vibes)…
Since this fragrance is released for the summer, it is a light, fresh and fun scent to use as the weather starts to warm up. The star ingredients in this concoction include grapefruit, lemon and bergamot as the topnotes, pear, osmanthus notes, and orange blossoms as the heart notes, and moss, white musks and cedar note as the base notes.
The fragrance is available in a 75ml bottle, and is available at Guerlain boutiques, institutes, and counters at Holt Renfrew, and The Bay.
