A trip to Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutique to pick up several packages went completely sideways when I spotted a new Essence display complete with their latest launches. I obviously had to check the permanent end-cap to see if they had restocked anything and was pleasantly surprised to find the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ($5.99, available here) and Satin Touch Blush in Satin Love ($3.99, available here) which I obviously had to pick up.
I’ve had a good streak of luck with Essence products lately and I’m hoping it continues. The products I’ve purchased from them are putting my other high-end products to shame! I’m still on the lookout for new items to expand my collection with – let me know if you have any must-haves that I should look into getting next time!
Essence Pure Nude Highlighter
The Essence Pure Nude Highlighter has been on my list of things to buy ever since it was released in the Fall of 2016. A lot of people loved it and claimed it was a dupe for high-end highlighters. It reminds me of the Laura Mercier Radiance Baked Bronze in Highlight but a lot warmer. Having read a few beauty bloggers’ approvals convinced me that this was a must-have in my collection.
The Essence Pure Nude Highlighter has a warm golden undertone which makes this absolutely perfect for my light-medium skintone. The texture is so finely milled – it reminds me a lot of MAC’s Mineralized Blushes – and it blends really well. This highlighter has a lovely iridescent finish that leaves a natural skin-like glow on the skin. After a few minutes, the powder disappears as it if it melted on the skin which creates a natural luminosity on the skin! Not too many of my high-end highlighters can do the same so umm… this is a such a steal considering the price. I can’t stop raving about this highlighter – it is something that I think everyone – beginners and pro makeup fans alike – should have! I couldn’t quite believe that this only set me back $6!
Essence Satin Touch Blush.
I haven’t bought a drugstore blush in ages so I was curious about this new one from Essence. For $4, I couldn’t say no. I picked up the shade Satin Love which is a light mauve-ish rose – a colour that I probably already have in my collection – but gives the most natural-looking flush! It is so pigmented, so you need to apply this blush with a light hand. This colour is so perfect for everyday and requires minimal effort to get right on the skin.
There’s a dotted pattern on it that I thought was a lovely touch though. It has a luminous satin finish without any hint of shimmers which makes it a very natural colour on the cheeks. Similar to the highlighter, the blush applies with absolutely no powderiness! This new blush really make my existing high-end blush collection a shame considering these didn’t cost me more than $4!
The swatch below doesn’t do these products any justice – I’ve been trying to get my camera to pick up on the intensity of the shade without much luck! I’d definitely google these and swatch them the next time you’re in store – it’s seriously worth the $10 and will make you wonder why you spend that much on high-end brands!
