I wasn’t terribly sure how I’d get on with drugstore palettes – I’ve been terribly disappointed in the past so I’d stayed away from them. From the Essence Cosmetics Spring / Summer 2017 collection were two new palettes created by two international beauty bloggers which seemed quite promising. Each palette retails for $10 and there is a distinct theme between the two palettes.
The first palette, is called the “glow must go” which features three eyeshadow shades, and a bronzer in the middle of the palette. The second palette features three eyeshadow colours, two eye brow shades and the brow wax to set.
I really enjoy the fact that both palettes are fairly distinct which means you get something different with each palette. Both palettes feature a cardboard packaging that feels a little flimsy though I do appreciate that it’s slim and compact.
Essence Cosmetics Bloggers Beauty Secrets Palette – Glow Must Go
The first palette is the glow must go created by the international beauty blogger, Serena of BeautyLab. There are three eyeshadow shades, a neutral shimmery pearly highlight shade, a carrot-orange shade and the last shade is dark matte brown. I find this colour selection to be fairly odd – the orange is something I will not get a lot of use out of and the other two shades are incredibly dupe-able. I find the eyeshadows to be incredibly powdery though they are pigmented which I really appreciate. The pearly shade has almost a duo-chrome effect going for it – it changes from a pearly-white shade to yellow-hued as you change the angle! Pretty fun 😉
The second part of the palette is a warm bronzer which has three stripes and is meant to be used swirled together. There is a tiny brush included inside that you can use to pick up individual colours if you choose to. I was a little taken aback by the colours included in this bronzer as it was very shimmery and swatched more like an eyeshadow! I loved how pigmented they are and I’ve been using these more as an eyeshadow colour than a bronzer. Since the stripes in the pan is slim, you’ll find it most convenient to use this bronzer only when swirled together.
Essence Cosmetics Bloggers Beauty Secrets Palette – Shape and Shadows
The second palette is called the Shapes and Shadows which features five colours which also retails for $10. Three of the colours are eyeshadows and the other two are eyebrow colours which I see myself using as a crease colour as necessary. The top half of the palette is the eyeshadow colours whilst the bottom shades are your brow colours and wax. The pigmentation of all the colours are great for the eyes and brow. The neutral colour palette means this is something you’d probably use on a regular basis. The eyeshadows are not as pigmented when worn on its own so I do recommend wearing a primer underneath. It makes a difference!
There is a brow spoolie and brush included here which is conveniently slim and a nice extra.
Essence Cosmetics makeup range has been geared and designed to appeal to a more younger audience and these two palettes definitely cater to that.
